Ah Lord. This is finally done!
You guys have no idea how long I've been meaning to post this up, but sadly other projects just always seemed to get in the way. Some of you may, or may not know this, but cartography is actually a hidden passion of mine.

It's true! I may just have to add this up in my list of commissions that I'm willing to do.

I adore creating fictional maps. If I could somehow find a career involving just that, I'd take it in a heartbeat. Alas, that is not my current life situation.. One day perhaps. One day. Where was I going with this? Oh right. Caster. So what is Caster exactly? Well, by dictionary terms it's someone who is able to cast things but it's not the case here.

In this case, Caster is an imaginary world that my friend *Lyoko-Naka and I created back when we were children. It was the setting for all our childhood games and imaginings. It was all we ever talked about, and it was all that ever mattered back then. Then the years went by and we never talked much about Caster anymore. It was quietly forgotten amongst other things in favor of things that seemed more important. ..That is, until a conversation we had just last year when she and I started to reminiscence about our old world. Everything came back. The old stories, the things that we did, and more.

Therefore it is with great pleasure that I introduce Caster to you. It's a very big world filled with delightful characters and creative environments that I sincerely hope you'll all enjoy as we continue create more for it. This is one childhood memory that is here to stay.

I did a search on 'cartography' and this one by far stood out the most prominent among the results. The rust/gold compliment each other very well, and you've put a lot of time and effort into this from what I can see... not to mention the love of the lands your friendship stories evolved in.

I in particular love to sketch maps of lands I write stories in. It helps me visualize where the action is taking place... and sometimes even helps me find new stories to unfold. It's nowhere near as talented as what I see here, though.

Very awesome, and definitely fav'd.

If it's all the same to you, I'd -love- to see a 'How to' on this if you ever have the time.

Oh my, thank you. That's really nice of you to say.
Seriously, this comment made me smile. Though granted, I wouldn't even know how to start a tutorial for this truth be told. ^^; This is actually the third map that I've ever created and it took a bit of practice.

For now, the best piece of advice that I can offer currently is to buy a School Atlas. Not an official one with roads, highways, and such but one that explains how the world works. It really helps to shape the lands so that they look natural as well as detailed explanations as to what sort of vegetation are found at what latitude. ;)

With the amount of work you put into this, you deserve every scrap of praise for it; no need to be so modest. ;)

Thank you for the tip on the Atlases. I seem to be able to get down the landmasses, and have a general idea of climatology; it's just getting it from pencil to polished beauty that seems to be my hangup. :P

That said, three maps and this is the final result? You know, if I ever get a book published, I'm more than likely going to be coming to you to work out a map for it... provided that your commission list is open at the time! :O

Until then... best of luck to all that you do.

Oh certainly! It's still a work in progress, but the general area we talked about it the southern area of the continent of Dunai. Where it's closest to the continent of Lumin on the right side of the map. :D

This map is really awesome!

I noticed the forms of some continents looks like clouds.
Seriously that is what I am thinking.xD

Did you by any chance based the continent designs on that?^^

Thanks!
Also, haha.. No, not really. I just remember thinking that I wanted the world to look pretty.
I can't say that I thought too much about it. ^^;

However I do like what you said. They do sort of look like clouds. :D

Hahaha I see, I asked that because I used to draw some countries inspired from cloud formations, and when I saw the map I thought of that.^^

And I bet Caster is a beautiful world.:)
